This message is important if you are using the “Format Region” field to configure the regional formatting for dates and decimals per customer/vendor for the document reports that you sent out to your customers and vendors.

This issue affects all sales, service and purchase document reports, regardless of the type of layout that is used (Apportunix Document Creator, RDLC or Word layouts).
N.B. this concerns a general issue that you can also experience without using any (ISV or PTE) extensions.

What is the problem?
The “Format Region” configuration for a customer/vendor is no longer respected. This bug has been introduced with a recent update of the Business Central platform from Microsoft.
Instead, the user region is applied for the regional formatting of dates and decimals.

For example, when being logged in as a user that uses regional formatting “English (United Kingdom)” (en-GB) and sending out a sales invoice to a customer with regional formatting “English (United States)” (en-US) this will result in wrong formatting of dates and decimals.
When before you would have a date field populated with the date “January 2, 2025”, it would be printed as “01/02/2025” (mm/dd/yyyy) for US customers, this issue results in it being printed as “02/01/2025” instead in your PDF files.
Understandably, this can yield undesirable outputs for documents that are sent out to customers and vendors.

When you are rendering document report layouts using Apportunix Document Creator, then you will also get error messages of the format “String ’10/16/2024′ 12:00:00 AM’ was not recognized as a valid DateTime”.
When you are rendering document report layouts using RDLC or Word, then this might result in erroneous PDF files silently, without any error.

This message is important if you have one or more Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central online environments that have been upgraded to the new version of Business Central (2024 release wave 2, 25.0) and are using any of the following Apportunix apps from Microsoft AppSource apps:

(This message also applies for any other Microsoft AppSource apps that take a dependency on the “Report Layouts” app (‘Microsoft _Exclude_ReportLayouts’). We advise you to contact the other vendors that you are working with as the issue described also affects apps from various other vendors that offer apps for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central on Microsoft AppSource.)

What is the problem?

Unfortunately there is a bug in the technical upgrade script that is run by Microsoft when the upgrades of BC online environments are performed to the new version of Business Central (2024 release wave 2, 25.0).
The upgrade script uninstalls the built-in “Report Layouts” app (‘Microsoft _Exclude_ReportLayouts’), but does not install the 25.0 version of this app.
Also, any Microsoft AppSource that were installed and have a dependency on this app are uninstalled and are not reinstalled during the upgrade of the BC online environment.
And finally, because the built-in “Report Layouts” app is uninstalled, it is not possible to reinstall the affected Microsoft AppSource apps.

This is a bug in the Microsoft Business Central environment technical upgrade script.

Are my BC online environments affected?

You might be affected if the following conditions apply:

  1. The BC online environment has recently been upgraded from Business Central 24.x to 25.0
  2. You are a user of one of the affected apps installed (e.g., Apportunix Document Creator, Apportunix Document Mail Queue)
  3. Neither the “_Exclude_ReportLayouts” nor the affected apps that you were using are still installed after the upgrade of your BC online environment to 25.0

If you would like to verify which apps you have installed in one of the BC online environments you have already upgraded to BC 25.0, you can do this as follows:

  1. Log in to the Business Central 25.0 online environment with an administrator account
  2. Open the following URL:
    https://businesscentral.dynamics.com/EntraTenantID/EnvironmentName/?table=2000000153replacing:
EntraTenantID with the ID of your Microsoft Entra tenant
EnvironmentName with the name of your Business Central 25.0 online environment
  3. In the list page that opens, check that the following apps are installed:
    a.    “_Exclude_ReportLayouts” by Microsoft
    b.    “Document Creator” by Apportunix (if you are using this app)
    c.    “Document Mail Queue” by Apportunix (if you are using this app)

If I have a BC online environment that is affected, how can I resolve the issue?

Microsoft is aware of the bug in the BC online environment upgrade script and is working on fixing the issue and registering it as a known issue in Power Platform Admin Center (PPAC).

As a work-around/direct fix you can follow these steps to reinstall the “_Exclude_ReportLayouts” app and any of the Microsoft AppSource apps that you are missing in your Business Central environment.

  1. If you found that the Microsoft “_Exclude_ReportLayouts” is missing in your Business Central 25.0 online environment, then you can reinstall it using the following URL:
    https://businesscentral.dynamics.com/EntraTenantID/EnvironmentName?aid=FIN&page=2503&filter=%27ID%27%20IS%20%27b7174aae-753c-4e71-bacb-d973995dce5e%27&signInRedirected=1 replacing:
EntraTenantID with the ID of your Microsoft Entra tenant
EnvironmentName with the name of your Business Central 25.0 online environment
  2. Reinstall the apps (from Apportunix and/or other ISVs) that you are missing in the Business Central 25.0 online environment via Microsoft AppSource
See: Install and Uninstall Apps – Business Central | Microsoft Learn

When will Microsoft apply a fix for this bug in the BC online environment upgrade script?
(When is it safe to upgrade our BC online environments to BC 25.0 without being affected by this bug?)

Microsoft has informed partners that a fix for the issue will be deployed as fast as possible using Safe Deployment Practices.
Please make sure to check the status of the upcoming known issue in Power Platform Admin Center (PPAC) to be informed on the resolution from Microsoft for this issue.

We trust to have informed you adequately and are here to help if you need any more information.

With kind regards,
The Apportunix team
